Xeptagon has kicked off its work to integrate the Digital Public Good (DPG) National Carbon Registry. The DPG National Carbon Registry is an initiative by UNDP with multiple stakeholders to coordinate workflows and create a modular and interoperable end-to-end digital ecosystem for global carbon markets.

Through the collaboration between Xeptagon and The HBAR Foundation, the DPG National Carbon Registry will be extended to create an option to use the Hedera Guardian and the world's largest library of digitalized and open-source methodologies built by its ecosystem of users. The Hedera Guardian framework and open source capabilities streamline the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification data collected and linked to tokenized assets managed in the National Carbon Registry for increased transparency.

Through the use of the Hedera Guardian, users of the National Carbon Registry will be able to:

  • Access all required project data via data explorers in plain text or via API.
  • Compare projects, methodologies, and data at a granular level.
  • Enable methodology upgrades and project upgrades to new versions of calculations as well as measure changes in methodologies and project impact over time.
  • Enable project and methodology analytics across projects and data to understand attributes and better correlate quality standards to project environmental impacts.
  • Ensure data privacy and management of information meets data residency requirements and disclosure to appropriate standards, agencies, and auditors required for issuance.
  • Better demonstrate community impact and financial remittance into the same accounts, attesting data, better demonstrating financial impact of projects correlated to their environmental benefits in addition to sustainable development in detail.

The HBAR Foundation is an organization established to accelerate the growth and adoption of the Hedera Network and, through its Sustainable Impact Fund has been established to include enablement of the sustainability economy on Hedera. Through its governance, the Hedera network brings institutional maturity together with the technical requirements of throughput, scalability, and security in addition to having a low carbon footprint. Differentiated by its institutionally ready approach, and bolstered by its strong ecosystem that provides funding for Digital Public Goods, the Hedera Guardian ecosystem enables developers and enterprises alike to engage both its grant funding programs and recently announced initiatives at COP29 for new methodologies, bug bounties, and features through its DLT Earth Program.

Through the integration of the Hedera Guardian with the National Carbon Registry, the Registry will efficiently handle carbon crediting procedures consistent with host country requirements and ensure consistent application of methodologies by its users, including Article 6.2 Host Countries. The National Carbon Registry will also be enhanced to accommodate multiple methodologies and mechanisms, including compliance with AEF prescribed in Article 6.2. As a result, the carbon registry can be deployed with minimal code changes necessary for various deployments. Any country or an organization which intends to use the carbon registry will have the optional ability to use these features.

Additionally, the integration of Distributed Ledger Technology in the carbon registry ensures data immutability and lowers risks of greenwashing, lack of transparency and lack of traceability of carbon credit project mitigation activities.

The new collaboration further strengthens the position of Xeptagon as a globally leading technology solution provider in the climate finance and carbon trading domains. Xeptagon has previous experience developing the National Carbon Registries of Namibia, Sri Lanka , and Zimbabwe while developing Carbon Marketplaces for ventures in South Korea and Hong Kong .
