Xeptagon has been awarded the contract by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to develop the Digital Transparency System (DTS). The system will help governments around the world to track climate-related actions and their progress based on the Paris Agreement’s Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF). The first Phase of the Climate Transparency System will be launched during the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2024 (in short COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Digital Transparency System enables governments and related entities working on climate actions to submit and track the data on various programmes, projects, activities and actions as well as various support received for national climate action. These data will be aggregated and validated within the system used for reporting.

In addition, the reporting module of the Climate Transparency System automatically generates the BTR (Biennial Transparency Reports) reports required by UNFCCC. Under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement, countries under the Paris Agreement are required to submit biennial transparency reports (BTR) every two years. The first submission of the BTR reports is due by 31 December 2024.

The system also includes a GHG Inventory built into the Transparency System. A Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory tracks the domestic carbon footprint of a country over time and helps these countries to progress toward their climate goals by GHG emission reduction. The GHG module also helps governments project emissions in different sectors and subsectors based on standard exponential modelling.

The complete Transparency system will also be released as a Digital Public Good (DPG).

Xeptagon is also contracted to develop the National Carbon Registry of the UNDP. Similar to the Digital Transparency System, the National Carbon Registry is also deployed at the national level by governments. The system is already deployed by multiple countries including Namibia, Sri Lanka and Côte d'Ivoire with Xeptagon directly being involved in deployment in several countries. Further, Xeptagon is already working on developing a Carbon Exchange for South Korea seed funded by SK Securities.
